Malayalam Typing Test

This typing test supports the major Malayalam keyboard layouts used in Kerala government exams:

1. Malayalam InScript: The Unicode-standard layout mandated by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS IS 16350:2016) and the Government of India. This is the official layout for KPSC exams, SSC Kerala cadre, and all central government typing tests conducted in Malayalam. If you are preparing for Kerala government exams, this is the layout you must practice.

2. English (QWERTY): Standard QWERTY layout for English typing, useful for candidates who need to practice English document work common in Kerala government and central government offices.

The KPSC (Kerala Public Service Commission) specifies the following typing speed requirements for government posts:

Malayalam Typing: A minimum of 25–30 WPM with an accuracy of 90–95% or above is required for most Typist, Lower Division Clerk (LDC), and Data Entry Operator posts.

Senior Grade Posts: Higher-level positions such as Senior Typist or Confidential Assistant may require speeds of 35–40 WPM or more.

This typing test calculates your speed using the same character-based formula used in KPSC and SSC exams: Net Speed = (Total Keystrokes - Errors) / 5 / Time in minutes

The Malayalam InScript layout is the BIS-standardised Unicode keyboard layout for Malayalam. It is governed by IS 16350:2016 and is the keyboard layout mandated by the Government of India for all official Malayalam typing work.

This layout is built into all modern operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS) under the name "Malayalam" or "Malayalam InScript". You do not need to install any additional software to use it — simply enable it through your operating system's language settings.

Malayalam typing speed in government exams is primarily calculated using the character-based method:

Gross WPM:
Gross WPM = Total Characters Typed / 5 / Time (in minutes)

Net WPM (used in KPSC & SSC exams):
Net WPM = (Total Characters - Total Errors) / 5 / Time (in minutes)

The Malayalam InScript keyboard is built into all major operating systems. Here is how to enable it:

Windows 10/11: Go to Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region → Add a language → search for "Malayalam" → add it. Then switch input methods using Win + Space.

macOS: Go to System Preferences → Keyboard → Input Sources → click + → select Malayalam. Switch layouts using the menu bar icon.

Ubuntu/Linux: Go to Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources → add Malayalam (InScript). Switch using Super + Space.
